Women’s World Boxing Championships: Nitu Ghanghas digs deep to punch her way into 48kg final

Indian pugilist Nitu Ghanghas faced off against Kazakhstan’s Alua Balkibekova in the first round of the ongoing Women’s Boxing World Championships. Despite her initial setback, Nitu quickly regrouped and fought back with great determination.

As soon as the 48kg semifinal match began, Nitu realized that she was up against a formidable opponent unlike any she had encountered in the competition thus far. In her previous fights, Nitu had relied on an aggressive approach that resulted in three consecutive referee stoppages. However, this time she found herself in a more challenging situation.

Undeterred, Nitu charged towards Balkibekova, aiming for a powerful left hook. Unfortunately, her attack missed its mark. Nevertheless, Nitu swiftly followed up with a series of body blows. In response, Balkibekova landed two solid punches on Nitu’s face.

The remainder of the bout devolved into a gritty brawl, resembling more of a street fight than a clean amateur boxing match. Both fighters engaged in constant grappling and employed defensive maneuvers in an attempt to gain an advantage. Balkibekova’s tenacity caught Nitu off guard, leading her to lose the first round by a narrow margin of 2-3.
